New River Fishing / Fly Fishing
 The
ancient streams and mountain brooks that
flow from the great New River were long
the source of food supply for the
Indians and ancient inhabitants of
Ashe
County, and now is a popular location to
enjoy fishing and fly fishing in the Blue
Ridge. The New River Fishing found in
Ashe County is excellent, as much of
Ashe County and West Jefferson has
remained untouched and in pristine
condition. Enjoy a day of fishing with
a New River fishing guide or choose from some
of the hideaways and popular spots found
around the county.
The New River State Park is also an
excellent place for fishing. Cast out
from the riverbanks and enjoy the
beautiful surroundings. You can fish
for smallmouth bass and muskellunge
trout, but be sure to get your NC
fishing license before casting out. Also, at the State Park enjoy canoeing,
camping and great hiking.
For New River trout fishing, visit
either Dean’s Trout Pond or Laurel
Springs Trout Farm, both family friendly
places that feature easy trout fishing
for beginners. For guided New River
Fishing trips, check out the many New
River fishing guides in the area, many
of which do day trips and provide the
equipment and knowledge of the river.

looking for, the New River is perfect
and there are many locations throughout
the county for New River fly fishing.
